WBTHC 2 v Marton Furness 2
WBTHC 2s took on Marton Furness 2s in the hope that they would extend their winning run and maintain their push for promotion. As the game got under way it became apparent that this would not be an easy task. WBTHC were strangely under par and the visitors were tough opponents. Fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout the first half but it was the home side which created the better chances. Unfortunately chances were not converted into goals and the WBTHC forwards were guilty of squandering some gilt- edged opportunities. The first- half ended goal-less.
The second-half began in much the same vein. WBTHC were probably had the edge in terms of possession and territory but a breakthrough looked elusive. The stalemate was eventually broken by Captain Chris Duncan who drove into the D and fired in a goal from a difficult angle. In a game which looked like it might be settled by a single goal, WBTHC had the upper hand. As in the first half, chances were created but goal scoring opportunities were spurned. Another glaring miss let Marton Furness off the hook. (Names have been omitted to protect the guilty). The visitors pressed forward and won possession outside the D. Poor defending created a two on one situation for Keeper Read who was beaten by a well taken shot into the roof of the net.
The game ended honours even. Hopefully WBTHC 2s have got a poor performance out of their system and will be in better form for next week's game against Team Northumbria.
