WBTHC Juniors v Richmond Juniors
WBTHC Juniors made the trip down the A1 to play against Richmond Juniors. Selection had been a problem owing to the combined effects of the half-term holiday and the distance but a team was assembled and prepared to play.
The first half was well contested with both sides playing some skilful passing hockey. WBTHC probably edged the half by creating more chances and limiting Richmond to break outs from defence and the occasional crash ball. Unfortunately WBTHC failed to convert their superior possession and territory into goals so the half ended goalless.
After the break Richmond re- organised and their new formation proved to be a bigger challenge to the WBTHC defence. With a Richmond forward lying deep, the defence and midfield were stretched giving the home team an attacking advantage which eventually paid dividends. They were awarded a penalty corner which was converted into a goal. WBTHC fought back strongly, heads didn't drop and effort was maintained. Several times the Richmond keeper was called into action and largely thanks to him, WBTHC were denied the equaliser they deserved.
