WBTHC 3 v Jesmond PCHC 2
Tynemouth put on their Sunday best to head to Jesmond Parish Church on a bright, sunny afternoon. However the performance of the reds was in a stark contrast to both the weather and the smart outfits of the oposition's fan club. The reds were outplayed from start to finish by a dedicated and physical JPC side.
In a scrappy first half Tynemouth failed to penetrate the tight JPC defence and were unable to muster a single shot on goal. Meanwhile within their own half Tynemouth struggled to keep possession and yeilded numerous chances to their opposition, with only good goalkeeping from Keir Waugh, some last ditch defensive tackles and poor JPC finishing kept the deficit to just two goals at halftime.
Once again Tynemouth were in for an earbashing at half time but this time the Hartlepool effect did not occur. It is said that God helps those who help themselves and as JPC charged forward to score their third goal from a controversial short corner the sun, which had blinded Tynemouth for much of the first half, went behind a cloud. A fourth goal from JPC finally bought about a response from Tynemouth as they finally controlled the ball for long enough to muster some shots and win some short corners in the opponents D but it was too little too late and JPC scored one final time on the counter.
So ended a deserved defeat for Tynemouth who will have to perform much better if they are to get anything from the match with Team Northumbria next week.
