WBTHC 2 v Marton Furness 2
After a long enforced Christmas Break WBTHC 2s were back in action in a top of the table clash with nearest league rivals Marton Furness on a blustery Middlesbrough Saturday.
Sadly it wasn’t to be their day.
Whilst there was some questionable decisions made against them and even more questionable tackling by Furness this game came down to the most crucial aspect in any sport...taking your chances.
Despite dominating much of the first half Tyne found themselves 0 -
Chance after chance went wide or was hit straight at the Marton goalkeeper as Tyne camped out in their opponents half. But it was the home team who snatched the lead with a well worked short corner routine that was finished into the roof of the net.
The second half had a familiar ring to it as yet again WBTHC spurned a whole host of opportunities including Kipper’s almost Dick Of The Day stealing shot over the bar when the goal was wide open.
Marton struck with a nicely placed finish to the bottom left before rounding off the scoring on a counter attack as WBTHC pushed up the pitch.
A long aerial ball over the midfield was met by a Furness attacker who shelled the ball through a helpless Craig Duffy into the bottom corner to complete the scoring.
Plenty of positives can be taken from the game where the score didn’t reflect the match but the team – who have a week’s break in fixtures – will now need to win all their remaining games as they look to secure a much deserved promotion.
Final Score: WBTHC 0 – 3 Marton Furness
MOM – Paddy Meredith for winning the midfield battle
DOD – Tristan for a whole host of reasons including showing up 20 mins after push back.
