WBTHC 1 v Chester 1

WBTHC 1 v Chester 1

WBTHC Men’s 1s faced Chester and looked to bounce back after a very disappointing defeat last Saturday. In the opening period the home team enjoyed good possession and managed to hold Chester back in their own half with a high and effective press. The pressure told on 10 minutes as WBTHC took the lead with a low short corner from Stoddart into the bottom right hand corner.  Chester were not prepared to lie down after conceding early and creating some breaks of their own in what turned out to be a very tight first half.

Immediately after half time, WBTHC put their team talk into practice and doubled their lead on 37 minutes with a well worked team goal, with Russ Bowen getting on the score sheet. Although being 2 goals down, Chester still looked dangerous on the break and forced great saves from Man of the match Blair Fotheringham in the WBTHC net.

Chester did find a breakthrough with a scrappy goal on 67 minutes after WBTHC failed to clear the ball with any authority, which gave a close and potential nervous finish for the home side, until a fast break saw Andrew Titmus finish immediately after with a reverse stick finish to kill the game and give the home team all 3 points.

WBTHC 1s now move within 1 point of the top spot.
