On 28th February WBTHC Vets played City of York Vets in the 3rd round of the Masters Veterans Plate. Having reached the final sixteen of the competition, WBTHC were hopeful of progressing further. An injury-plagued squad of eleven players travelled to York to take on their formidable opponents. The game turned out to be every bit as tough as WBTHC expected (York had won their previous games 10-0 and 15-0). Faced with a younger, faster team, WBTHC had to battle in defence to restrict York to a 4-0 lead at half-time. The second half brought no respite and York scored a further four goals. Goalkeeper Finch performed heroically throughout and when the final whistle came, a bloodied but unbowed WBTHC limped off with their heads held high. Final score, WBTHC Vets 0, City of Yorks Vets 8.
A stalwart of the Men's Section, Fred Crouch, recently made history by becoming the oldest player to score a goal in a League game. His remarkable feat earned him a mention in the local press.
